Privacy, in plain words.

The short version

Startt is built to keep your recordings on your device. We don’t have accounts, ads or tracking cookies, and we don’t sell data.

What stays on your device

• Screen recordings, uploaded videos and your guide library are stored in your browser (IndexedDB). Clearing your browser data removes them.
• Your recording preferences are stored in your browser’s local storage.
• With the Chrome extension, screenshots are stored inside the extension until they are handed to startt.xyz, then deleted.

What is sent to our servers

• To write a guide: reduced-size key screenshots, the timestamps of each step, any click labels from the extension, and your narration transcript. They are processed by Anthropic’s Claude AI (through Netlify’s AI Gateway) to produce text. The job is deleted as soon as the result is delivered to you. The video itself is never uploaded.
• To rewrite a guide: the guide’s text and your instruction.
• Share links: when you create one, the guide’s text and blurred screenshots are stored on our host (Netlify) so anyone with the link can view it. Share pages are hidden from search engines. To remove one, email hello@startt.xyz with the link.

Narration

Live narration uses your browser’s built-in speech recognition. In Chrome and Edge, audio may be processed by Google or Microsoft to produce the transcript, under their privacy terms.

Service providers

We use Netlify (hosting and storage), Anthropic (AI writing) and Google Fonts (typefaces). Each processes data only to provide its service.
